Infertility Depression

[activecampaign form=1 css=1]

You know I like to give it to you real at all times.  Not only did the infertility drugs make me crazy the whole situation made me so depressed.  There are so many emotions tied up in whether or not you can procreate. No one ever tells you when you are a little girl, that when you are dreaming of that family and white picket fence that it may not be as easy as just wanting it.  That it will take a lot of work to get there.

What I want to tell you all is that being depressed because you are having trouble getting pregnant is so NORMAL.  In fact it is to be expected! They don’t call it an emotional rollercoaster for nothing.

Even if you are lucky enough to get pregnant rather quickly you still have a right to be depressed.  It’s how we are wired, when we get sad or anxiety ridden we can trigger depression.

I think admitting that you are depressed is a sign of a very strong person.  The fact that you are clued in enough to understand the emotions you are feeling is a gift.

It is also NORMAL to not feel like your old self during this time.  Now that we know that, what can you do about it?

If you have been following me for a while you know I am a huge proponent of therapy.  If you can afford to see someone, even if it’s temporary , I highly recommend it. It will be worth every penny.  You can look for a Psychiatrist, Psychologist or a CSW. There are even apps that you can use to connect with a counselor virtually.

For me I threw myself into the TWILIGHT movies.  It was my get away and mental break from my everyday life.  It literally became a joke with my hubs “Hey babe I’m going to Forks, see you soon”.  Thank goodness for Stephanie Meyer’s imagination, she totally was part of my TEAM CARYN Therapy.

You know what else can work?  Meds. Yup, I said it, I put it out there.  Don’t judge me or anyone else for needing some Prozac or Zoloft to help us though.  If you have never felt like you were drowning without a lifesaver good for you. Keep your opinions to yourself.  Again I think recognizing that chemically something is off with you is the sign of strength not weakness. If you feel this is you, talk to your doctor and see if this is an option for you.  I have know many who were on antidepressants before, during and after pregnancy.

So next-time you are feeling out of sorts because the process has gotten you down just know there is nothing wrong with you!

Xoxo,

Caryn
