Will infertility treatments cause me to gain weight?

[activecampaign form=1 css=1]

One of the things I get asked a lot, which was also a concern of mine, was gaining weight from the infertility meds.  Now you know I’m always straight with you and to answer your question yes, you will gain some weight BUT it is mostly water weight.

WHAT????

Stay calm and listen….  When you are using meds to increase your follicle count you are helping your body to do something 10 fold that it normally would only produce one of.  Just like you will gain some water weight before and during your period the same holds true here. You will feel bloated for sure but have no fear, shortly after the follicles are either released or harvested you will begin to get rid of that water and should then see the scale move back to it’s starting number.

When you move into the implantation stage of your cycle and start progesterone shots, this can also cause some water weight gain. I’m sure you may think it’s pounds but really it’s not.  You may see certain women gain a good amount of weight during a cycle and think this will happen to you but do NOT compare yourself. Sometimes certain women can be more sensitive to the drugs but to be really honest, some women use this an excuse to eat anything they want.

Now I’m not here to judge, I was one of those women who used food to cope but that doesn’t need to be you.  In fact, I recommend a wheat free diet high in fat before you go through the process. Taking care of your health and blessing your body with what you eat has never been more important than it is now.  After-all, you are preparing yourself for a visitor that will be staying for 9 months.

Research has been done that suggests a KETO type diet can help calm inflammation from various conditions such as Endometriosis and PCOS and help prepare your uterus for implantation more effectively.  As always, speak to your doctor first before starting any new lifestyle change. Cutting out wheat in the very least will not harm you in any way. Make sure you are drinking a ton of water (at least half your body weight) daily and getting a minimum of 7 hours of sleep a night.  This will also help with the water weight and keeping the scale happy.
